Development started in late 2002, when the GBCA was just a start-up. We developed the site in a phased approach: a basic website, a CMS, membership tools, etc. In 2008, the site has over 1,200 articles, 16,000 registered users, over a dozen events are added each month (with online booking), all managed in a single, easy-to-use backend that the 50-strong, national GBCA staff use.
The Green Building Council of Australia's mission is to define and develop a sustainable property industry in Australia and to drive the adoption of green building practices through market-based solutions. The Council's objective is to promote sustainable development and the transition of the property industry to implementing green building programs, technologies, design practice and operations. To do this, it advances and promotes the creation of a green building rating tool, economic incentives, government initiatives and programs, new technologies and industry knowledge.
The World Green Building Council will be the peak global not-for-profit organisation working to transform the property industry towards sustainability.
By bringing together the Green Building Councils from around the world, WorldGBC work together to share knowledge, resources and common principles to advance the development of greener buildings. They also provide other countries wishing to start their own Green Building Council with a diversity of solutions and representation to ensure a successful start-up.
ING required a dynamic site, capable of displaying large quantities of information in an easy to digest, and easy to navigate manner. Additionally, most aspects of the site needed to be updatable by non-technical savvy users. BlueSix implemented our custom CMS and template system, so that all content was easily updatable, including the ability to upload any type of document or image, from Annual Report PDFs to the latest key financial data graphs. Special sections were also created to showcase the various investment properties held by, and under development by ING globally, and around Australia.
Other work-flow features were built into the CMS, such as the ability to only publish an article live on the website if it has been approved by a designated administrator. Various levels of administration were built into the backend, to allow certain levels of access to groups of users. Additionally, an advanced chronological system was constructed allowing articles to be automatically published or expired on the site, after being predefined in the CMS. This is especially crucial when dealing with timely financial data.

INCOLL wanted a site that was easy to navigate, but still contained a lot of information. BlueSix recommeded the use of the new standards compliant pure XHTML & CSS flyout navigation. Consisting of only standard HTML markup, the nav does not use any Javascript to build the nav bar, or activate the hover actions. This has several advantages, including leaner code, standards compliant code, viewable on a wider range of devices, and most importantly - it still works with CSS styles disabled, meaning that handicapped users and search engines see the navigation, allowing them to access the entire site, without having to resort to a site map.
A CMS was also built with this site, allowing for the various projects and news items to be displayed throughout the site, which also allowed INCOLL to define "Featured" news stories and projects, for when they wish to highlight some of their more important achievements. This site was also the first time that BlueSix used the new XStandard XHTML-producing, WYSIWYG tool (popup screenshot). With a familiar MS Word type interface, and integrated file uploading, this tool allows non-technical users update their website, while still producing standards compliant markup (XHHTML).
INCOLL is a leading development and project management consultancy operating across Australia. Their strengths lie in their people, experience, systems and their approach. Specialising in the management of major property developments providing advice from the initial investment, design and approval through to construction, occupation and handover.

BlueSix managed the technical development if this information heavy website. The BlueSix CMS and Templating System was implemented to give the client flexible control of the site. Due the large amount of information contained on this site, a dynamic flyout Javascript menu was used to quickly give the user access to all areas of the site, without having to drill down through the various levels of data. Because of the deep, nested structure of the site, a navigational aid called a "breadcrumb" was used, which states the user's current location relative to the structure of the site.
The Australian Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE) is a member based industry association representing the sustainable energy industry in Australia. A personal side project - this boat share tool, boatplanner.com allows boat owners to keep up to date with their co-owners and crew. Plan trips, organise a crew for a race day, keep a contact list of your crew, post notes about repairs or stories on the forum... the feature list is constantly growing.
While undergoing development, the site is free to use if you request an account.
BlueSix specialises in the creation of standards compliant websites. We can create XHTML and write websites where the presentation layer of the site is seperate from the content. This means that any future changes to the site are quick and simple, as the entire site can be styled from one CSS file.
Here are some examples of sites that BlueSix has created the XHTML and CSS templates for.

Badger Books is a bookstore which sells a wide range of specially selected early books of unusual interest. This range includes books from the 19th and 20th centuries that appeal to both collectors and readers alike.
The site was originally built in 1999, and was in need of an overhaul in early 2004. Because of its age, the site used many depreciated HTML elements, and inefficient ASP scripts. The shopping cart was working incorrectly, and needed to be re-written. BlueSix audited the entire site, reducing the amount of code used to about half, by compiling all frequently used code in a single file. This will make maintenance and any future updates of the site very simple and efficient, as changes only need to occur in one place. The shopping cart was re-written, as was the checkout/payment procedure, as a new gateway provider was used to handle the transactions.
The backend was also heavily modified to increase the level of usability. The members system was overhauled so that it is simple to view statistics on members, and in future, create a newsletter system. The orders/invoicing system was also modified for easier use.
BlueSix's first completely standards-based website. The site uses XHTML 1.0 compliant code, meaning it should appear consistently across a wider range of browsers and other devices such as handheld PCs. The minimal use of images allows the site to load extremely quickly. All presentational data is contained in a single CSS stylesheet, meaning the look of the entire website can be changed simply by change the CSS file. Because the CSS file is cached on the user's machine, only the actual text (i.e the content) of each page needs to be downloaded, making browsing the site extremely quick. This also means that search engine spiders can easily crawl through the site, which means a better search engine ranking.
